Donations are accepted in a shed in the BACK of the Main Building (not the porch) of the Fort Myer Thrift Shop and at the drop box near the Commissary. Please follow the guidelines below and do not donate items on the "Do not donate" list.
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE DONATIONS AT GARAGE DOOR WHEN WE ARE CLOSED. WEATHER CONDITIONS CAN DAMAGE THEM.
Also - if you come to donate when we are open, please bring them to the back of the Thrift Shop - we can receive them there and also give receipts if desired.
We are a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization and will be happy to give you a tax receipts for your donations.

FMTS Loves Your Donations! But to keep things safe and clean, there are some items we just can’t accept. Check out our list below, and if you're unsure, give us a call at (703) 527- 0664.

Clothing and Shoes:
- Style: In fashion from the past 3-5 years, timeless, or truly vintage.
- Condition: Clean, good shape, and free of stains, tears, or pet/human hair.
- Undergarments & Bathing Suits: New with tags only.
- Good Vibes Only: Shoes should be in good condition or brand new—no “well-traveled” pairs!
Books:
- Books: Must be in new or excellent used condition—free of tears, nicks, or creases.
- Encyclopedias: We’re unable to accept them.
- Magazines: We might accept old or interesting issues, so don’t hesitate to ask about those special finds!
Furniture & Large Items:
- No-Go: We can’t accept furniture that’s covered in animal or human hair, broken, worn, torn, stained, mildewed, rusty, or missing parts.
- Oversized Alert: Items over 50 lbs, including large furniture or exercise equipment, are not accepted.
- Mattress Madness: No mattresses, box springs, bed rails, or bean bag chairs.
- Bed Ban: No bunk or loft beds.
- Safety First: No non-toy chests with automatic locks or furniture with lead paint.
Electronics & Appliances:
- Old School TVs: Non-flat screen TVs are not accepted.
- Big Machines: We can't take stoves, air conditioners, washers, dryers, dishwashers, fridges, freezers, trash compactors, or hot water heaters.
Building:
- Construction Zone: No building materials, lighting, or plumbing fixtures like windows, doors, garage doors, shutters, sinks, tubs, toilets, fixtures, fencing, gutters, lumber, concrete, bricks, stone, or blinds.
Housewares Alert:
- No Single Items: We only accept sets of 4 or more for glasses, plates, and mugs.
- No Commercial Mugs: Mugs with commercial names or logos aren’t accepted.
- Pots, Pans, & Small Appliance: Clean pots, pans, and small appliances only—no scratches, stuck on food, or secret surprises!
- Rug Rules: Please no unbound carpeting or area rugs that are wet, stained, mildewed, or covered in animal hair.
Baby & Kid Gear:
- Baby Ban: We can’t accept cribs, strollers, car seats, highchairs, playpens (pack-n-plays), changing tables, bassinettes, or baby walkers.
- Toy Trouble: No toy chests with hinged lids, large fold-up strollers (we only accept umbrella strollers), toys with powerful magnets, phthalates, lead jewelry, or clothing with drawstrings.

Health & Safety Items:
- Hazardous Stuff: No hazardous materials, paints, or gas-powered tools.
- Health Helpers: We can’t accept medical supplies, portable toilets, cosmetics, hair care products, or diapers and hygiene products unless they are new and in their original sealed packaging.
- Food & Beverages: No food or beverages.
- No-No’s: No firearms, ammunition, or fireworks.
- Helmets: Unfortunately, we can't accept helmets of any kind.
Auto:
- Car Parts: Tires, wheels, batteries, chemicals, oil, and wiper fluid are not on our list.
