CONSIGNMENT GUIDELINES
- Time period: Your consignment items are for sale for 6 weeks from the date you bring your item to the thrift shop. You may mark down items once during this time period with no penalty.
- Time period ending: If your items do not sell after 6 weeks, they become Fort Myer Thrift Shop property. You may withdraw your items, but only before the date the item becomes thrift shop property - date is posted on YOUR print-out of said consignment (drop sheet).
- Drop sheets: Our office will provide you with a copy of your consignment form and a drop sheet that indicates the date your items, if they do not sell, become thrift shop property. Drop sheets are available to you a day after you bring in consignment items. Please do not forget to come in and pick them up. It is your responsibility to track your own items.
- Withdrawing your items: If you want to withdraw your item, the withdrawal fee is between $0.25 to $1.00 per item depending on the price of the item. You must withdraw the item before it becomes thrift shop property. Find your items and bring them to the office in Main Building, or if items are in Boutique, take to cashier station. Staff or volunteer will remove the tags.
- Consignment checks: Checks are available the 20th of the month or the first day the thrift shop is open after that date. Checks are for the previous month's sales and must be picked up at the office of the Fort Myer Thrift Shop. Please be prepared to show your ID card for proof of identity. Checks are good for 90 days with no reissue. If not picked up, the proceeds go to the Fort Myer Thrift Shop. A list of items sold will be attached to the monthly check.
Checks can be mailed ONLY if you transfer to a new military assignment (PCS) or permanently leave the Greater Washington area as a retiree. Please call the thrift shop and make arrangements before you move. Bring a copy of orders (military) and 3 self-addressed stamped envelopes (for all) with new address for the office. - PCS Move: If you are PCSing, you may bring in extra items. You must be leaving the Greater Washington Area - not a local move. Please let us know when you call for an appointment and talk with the Thrift Shop Manager. You will need to leave a copy of orders, 3 self-addressed stamped envelopes, with the office personnel. Happy to Help!
- Item refusal: We reserve the right to refuse items even if they are not on the temporary or permanent list. This refusal might be due to temporary space limitations or the condition of the items!
